Music events in Kandy

Kandy's live music sits alongside a much older performance tradition, and the two are worth separating. Traditional Kandyan dance and drumming perform on a near-nightly basis at the cultural halls in town, aimed partly at visitors but performed by the same families who play in the perahera. Alongside that runs a modern circuit: bands and DJs at the hotels around the lake and out along the Peradeniya road, concerts and musical productions at the town's auditoriums, and the university's own student music evenings. The hill weather is a genuine factor for anything outdoors, and poya days close the bar-led half.
