The Voice in the Room
Tenor Amar Muchhala and pianist Johann Peiris perform Duparc, Liszt and nineteenth-century opera for the Chamber Music Society of Colombo at the Goethe Institute in Colombo, at 7.30pm on Saturday 29 August 2026, with seating at Rs 3,000.
Four Duparc mélodies open the recital: Chanson triste to verse by Jean Lahor, Phidylé by Leconte de Lisle, and La vie antérieure and L'invitation au voyage by Charles Baudelaire. Liszt's Tre Sonetti di Petrarca, numbers 104, 47 and 123, closes the first half; after the interval come nineteenth-century opera showpieces for tenor, among them Puccini's E lucevan le stelle from Tosca and Ponchielli's Cielo e mar.
