Beethoven's Eighth — Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Colombo
The Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Colombo under chief conductor Srimal Weerasinghe plays Beethoven's Symphony No. 8, Mozart's Divertimento K.251 and Rutter's Suite for Strings. 20 September 2026, 7:00 PM.
The Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Colombo builds its September concert around Beethoven's Symphony No. 8, the composer's shortest and most good-humoured symphony. It is framed by two lighter companions: Mozart's Divertimento in D major, K.251, written for a summer name-day celebration, and John Rutter's Suite for Strings, a modern English setting of folk melodies. The result is a programme of deliberate contrast rather than a single-composer evening.
Chief conductor Srimal Weerasinghe leads the orchestra. No vocal or instrumental soloists are named for this programme.
