Impure — Contemporary Choral Expressions
The Colombo Oriental Choir presents Impure, a six-movement concert of contemporary choral music, at the BMICH Kamatha New Theatre at 6pm on Saturday 24 October 2026.
Six movements make up Impure, a concert of contemporary choral music from the Colombo Oriental Choir at the Kamatha New Theatre, BMICH. Each movement takes up a sacred or musical tradition found where two cultures meet, and together they ask who gets to call a tradition “pure”, and what changes when music moves between traditions it was meant to stay apart from. Every item is built on close knowledge of the tradition it engages, and none argues for leaving tradition behind.
The name is a deliberate choice: it is the label critics attach to cross-cultural work, and the choir has adopted it as the concert’s title.
The performance starts at 6pm on Saturday 24 October. Tickets cost Rs 2,000, Rs 3,000 or Rs 5,000, and questions about online booking go to Widura on 077 236 3333, by WhatsApp only.
