Nari Bena — නරි බෑණා
Unius Entertainment revives Dayananda Gunawardena's classic Sinhala folk musical about a scheming fox, with matinee and evening shows at the Kolamba Kamatha open theatre inside the BMICH on Saturday 22 August.
Nari Bena is one of the enduring landmarks of modern Sinhala theatre, and Unius Entertainment brings it back to the Kolamba Kamatha stage at the BMICH for a single day of matinee and evening performances. Drawn from a Sinhala folk tale by the late Dayananda Gunawardena, the song-driven play follows a cunning fox who talks his way into a household, using the animal's trickery as a mirror for superstition, social pretence and the small dishonesties people live by. It plays for laughs, but the sting underneath is what has kept audiences coming back to it for decades.
